Nguyen Thi Trung has loved music since childhood, ethnic music above all. That is why Kyrgyz culture, traditional melodies and national musical motifs feel close to her and hold a special interest.
At the World Nomad Games she represents the musical culture of her country, playing the traditional Vietnamese one-stringed instrument, the dan bau.
The dan bau has a particularly melodic and expressive sound. What makes the instrument unique is the ability to bend the pitch smoothly with a flexible rod. While playing, the musician controls the string with a wooden stick in one hand and adjusts the flexible rod with the other, producing the soft, shimmering sounds characteristic of the dan bau.
Today Nguyen Thi Trung performs at the Rukh Ordo cultural complex, where her art draws the attention of many foreign guests and Kyrgyz visitors. Audiences watch her play with admiration and discover the extraordinary, spellbinding sound of the Vietnamese dan bau.
For Nguyen Thi Trung, taking part in the World Nomad Games is not only a chance to present the rich musical heritage of Vietnam, but also a fine opportunity to discover the culture of Kyrgyzstan and of other countries.
On one large international stage different traditions, languages and cultures meet, bringing people together through art and music. Encounters like these become a real bridge of friendship and mutual understanding between peoples.
