Story
Astana raised a question that had never come up: what do nomadic Games look like in a city, with no steppe behind them? The answer was unexpected — the urban stage sharpened the spectacle, and the ethno-village in the park became the most visited part of the programme.
Twenty-one sports, 89 countries, two and a half thousand athletes. Full media production arrived: multi-camera broadcasts, graphics, replays — without which traditional sport cannot compete for attention.
The fifth Games settled the cycle: every two years, a changing host, a constant core programme.
